Logo Design Cost in the USA (2026)
US logo pricing from marketplace to agency, what genuinely changes between tiers, and the USPTO and licensing costs that sit outside the design fee.
In the US a logo runs from about $30 on a marketplace to $50,000+ from a name agency, with most small businesses spending $300 to $3,000. What changes across that range is not drawing skill — it is strategy, file completeness, and whether ownership actually transfers to you.
What you get at each level
$30–$200 — marketplace. Fast, one concept typical. The three things most often missing: vector source files, a written copyright assignment, and any question about your market.
$300–$3,000 — independent or small studio. A real brief, multiple distinct directions, complete file kit, guidelines toward the top. Most US small businesses get something durable here.
$5,000–$25,000 — established studio. Category research, naming, positioning, extended identity systems.
$25,000+ — agency. For regulated industries, funded companies, or anything with hundreds of touchpoints where being wrong is expensive.
Costs that sit outside the design fee
- Trademark filing. Paid to the USPTO, per class of goods or services, and separate from what you pay a designer. Fees were restructured recently, so check the current USPTO fee schedule rather than an older article.
- Attorney fees if you use one for clearance or filing — often more than the government fee itself, and usually money well spent for a mark you intend to defend.
- Font licences. Commercial typefaces are licensed to you, not bundled by the designer. Desktop, web and app licences are frequently priced separately.
- Sales tax in some states on design services. Varies; ask.
Where money is genuinely wasted
Buying a logo when you needed a system. If you will produce social posts, packaging or print regularly, you will spend the saving many times over in inconsistency.
Paying for concept count. Fifty concepts is not better than four; it signals volume over judgement and pushes the selection work onto you.
Paying twice because the files were unusable. The most common hidden cost at the cheapest tier — a printer or developer cannot use what you were given.
See how to choose a logo designer for the questions that separate the tiers before you pay, and who owns your logo for the ownership part.
